PLEASE SHARE YOUR PASSION AND INTEREST IN LAW AS A PROFESSION?

As far as I can remember, the Law as a profession always fascinated and inspired me. As the fourth generation of an illustrious business family, it intrigued a lot many people when I decided to pursue a career in Law and became the first Lawyer in the family. What attracted me most was the idea of being part of the world of justice and fairness.

WHICH ARE THE NICHE AREAS THAT YOU FIND YOURSELF MOST INCLINED TOWARDS

Post my LL.M from Cardiff University Wales, UK where I mastered in Commercial Law. I found myself working for a British Law Firm and soon enrolled as a Solicitor at the Law Society of England and Wales, specializing in Property matters. My prime focus is Indian and International Property law and Civil Law. Since our Laws are based on English Laws, it was effortless for me to grasp the concepts while working in the UK. On my return from England, I went on to pursue similar areas of Law in litigation.

WHAT ACCORDING TO YOU REMAIN THE MOST CRITICAL ASPECTS OF A SUCCESSFUL LAW PRACTICE

The most important aspect of a successful law practice is dedication and honesty to clients and, of course, passion towards the subject. The field of Law is extremely challenging and dynamic, and one cannot afford to slack. One is continually learning in this profession. You must love to read, have the ability to grasp, and must have the ability to interpret the statute.

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT PRACTICING AS A LAWYER IS AS MANAGERIAL AS ANY OTHER BUSINESS?

Our profession is very dynamic, and as a Lawyer, one gets into the habit of not only managing one’s work but also managing one’s time, one’s office, and one’s clients, amongst other things. It requires a lot more expertise than just legal knowledge to be a good lawyer. One must have the resilience to deal with varied outcomes and a commitment to improving one’s resources and expertise. And most important is to develop the ability to connect with and to understand people.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE TOP 3 REQUIREMENTS TO BECOME A SUCCESSFUL IN-HOUSE COUNSEL TODAY?

Dedication, Integrity, and Honesty.

YOUR VIEWS ON TALENT MANAGEMENT, RETENTION IN TODAY’S COMPETITIVE JOB MARKETS- YOUR MESSAGE FOR THE YOUNG ASPIRANTS OF LAW

Lawyers have to be able to sustain themselves in this profession. It does get difficult for companies to retain talent and incentivize the position all the time. But the younger generation must understand that Law as a profession requires time and patience for growth. We are continually learning on the job, and the reward is knowledge and success.

A prominent counsel is one who can understand and grasp the crux of a matter in a short period and give a connotation, which would help take the case forward. The ability to handle disagreements in a dignified manner is what sets a counsel apart.
