School of Law, Christ University Lifts The Trophy at The GNLU International Moot Court Competition, 2019

The eleventh edition of the GNLU International Moot Court Competition, 2019 was organized by Gujarat National Law University from February 13th to 17th, 2019. This moot competition revolves around the subject of International Trade Law, with a simulation of the WTO dispute settlement process. The problem, this year, was based on the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures. The esteemed moot attracted 56 teams from all over the world, including 11 international teams.

The moot featured two days of preliminary rounds, followed by a quarters and semis, culminating in a competitive final round between National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi and School of Law, Christ University. The panel for the finalists comprised of distinguished panel of trade law experts consisting of Mr. Andrea Schlaepfer (Lecturer, University of Bern); Ms. Anuradha RV (Partner, Clarus Law Associates); Dr. James J. Nedumpara (Professor and Head, Centre for Trade and Investment Law, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade); Mr. Santanu Mukherjee (Advocate & Head of Chambers, Ex Lege Chambers Advocates & Regulatory, Policy Advisors) and Mr. V. Lakshmikumaran (Managing Partner, Lakshmikumaran& Sridharan Attorneys). Ultimately, School of Law- Christ University were declared as the winners of the competition. Mr V. Lakshmikumaran, the Managing Partner of Lakshmikumaran& Sridharan was the chief guest of the closing ceremony of GIMC 2019. He spoke to the students about the true purpose of lawyers and described experience as the greatest wealth of a lawyer. The quality and level of excellence at the competition was also praised by many of the eminent guests, with Mr. Nedumpara hailing it as ‘best moot court competition that India has produced.’
