Scanning The Indian M&E Sector – Legal & Regulatory Focus

Lex Witness – India’s1st Magazine on Legal & Corporate Affairs successfully completed its 7th Annual Media, Advertising & Entertainment Legal Summit 2018, on 11th October 2018, Courtyard by Marriott, Mumbai. With over 80 attendees as Industry Veterans from the legal, risk, compliance and regulatory domain, the summit proved out to be a commendable knowledge-base for the industry.

ACCORDING TO THE INDIAN BRAND EQUITY FOUNDATION:

The Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) industry grew at a CAGR of 18.55 percent from 2011-2017; and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13.9 percent to touch US$ 37.55 billion by 2021 from US$ 22.75 billion in 2017. The entertainment industry is projected to be more than US$ 62.2 billion by FY25. The employment provided by the industry reached 3.5-4 million people, including both direct and indirect employment as of 2017.

While these numbers pave a very promising future for the sector, one can’t ignore the existing legal and regulatory hassles the sector continues to deal with. Right from royalty to India’s preps for its own data protection laws there remain several shades of grey that the sector’s veterans ponder on. Undoubtedly, with technology as the new monster in the room the sector is becoming one of the most innovative ones in the current Indian Inc. canvas. With 6 power packed sessions throughout the day, the summit showcased industry leaders as expert speakers in their respective function areas expressing their lessons, tricks and success stories. Lex Witness since the last 7 years has been organizing a dedicated platform for the M&E sector’s legal professionals to get together and brainstorm on various topical issues. The Lex Witness 7th Annual Media, Advertising & Entertainment Legal Summit 2018 held on 11th October 2018 at Courtyard by Marriott, Mumbai had one of the most scintillating collections of industry leaders from legal, risk, compliance and finance domains who got together to combat with their day to day challenges and envision towards a business-friendly, yet compliant environment.
