In an age when law students solely focus on the their core subjects of study, Suhail Mathur, final year student of National Law University, Delhi juggles his time between interning at top law firms, judging literary events and doing cricket commentary for Star Sports and Airtel’s mobile application. However, it is the release of his debut book, THE BHAIRAV PUTRAS, which has brought him under the spotlight currently.
Said to be a historical mythological adventure set in pre independent India, the book has begun garnering praise and climbing the charts soon after its launch. In fact, it is one of the highest selling books on major online portal, Infibeam.com. Not only that, with the release of THE BHAIRAV PUTRAS, Suhail has become not only one of the youngest Indians but possibly the youngest law student in India to debut with a historical fiction.
While cricketer Ajit Agarkar felt ‘Inspired’ after reading the book and historian Mayank Austen Soofi labelled it as a book with a ‘Fast paced thrilling narrative’, author Neelima Dalmia Adharhas gone on to say that the book is a sure shot ‘Bestseller’.
Set in 1936, the book tells the tale of a mystical land called Bhairavgarh in the heart of the United Provinces where the British set up a cantonment, gradually leading to dire consequences. The town, known for a gigantic golden statue of Lord Bhairav sculpted in pure gold; goes through a transitional phase that makes a wily strategist gather men from different walks of life and plan the unthinkable.
It is from here that an adventurous and perilous journey begins that leads the group to four mysterious men while in search of a long forgotten book written during the times of Emperor Ashoka even as the British are besieged with problems ranging from the Second World War to Gandhi’s ways and means of achieving independence.
But if you thought that there is no law in the book, think again. THE BHAIRAV PUTRAS has an engrossing court case with all the necessary accusations and rebuttals too. It is for this reason that several legal personalities like Ajay Bahl (Partner, AZB & Partners), Amarendra Sharan (Ex Addl. Solicitor General) and Shyam Grover (Group Editor & CEO, Lex Witness Magazine) have heaped praises on the book with Mr. Grover calling it a ‘brilliant, engrossing piece from a debutant author.”
A proud Vice Chancellor of NLU Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Ranbir Singh terms the book as a fascinating and gripping tale for all ages and is happy that Suhail has also paid homage to NLUD’s first Registrar, the Late Ghanshyam Singh, by naming a character on him.
With so much praise being showered upon the book, Suhail is hopeful of the book extending its good run and realising his dream of being a multi faceted corporate lawyer in the future.
