International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), an organization of high global repute, recently launched its India Network under the Chairmanship of Ms. Maneesha Dhir, Managing Partner, Dhir & Dhir Associates.
The event was held at India Habitat Center. The audience included Insolvency Professionals, lawyers, CAs, CS, bankers etc. The speakers included, Ms. Mamta Binani, Past President ICSI and the India’s first Insolvency Professional, Ms. Maneesha Dhir, Managing Partner, Dhir & Dhir Associates, Ms. Amruta Nikam, Legal Counsel, Yes Bank, Ms. Anjali Sharma, Researcher, Finance & Economics, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Ms. Pooja Sinha, Partner, GLS Law, Singapore and Ms. Upasana Rao, Partner, Trilegal. The panel discussion focused on various aspects of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016 (IBC 2016). In addition to an overview of the IBC 2016, the panel also focused on various challenges that will need to be addressed to in order to successfully implement the code in its true sense.
As the first Asian network, HK (2005) led the way to what is now a strong IWIRC presence in the region with networks in China (November 2008), Singapore (April 2009), Japan (May 2012) and India (April 2014), and most recently Malaysia (January 2017).
India Network is committed to the promotion and growth of professionals in insolvency and restructuring practice in India and providing greater opportunities to its members, through a wide range of networking activities including seminars, workshops, retreats and conferences. Members would benefit immensely via access to the other network members globally, explore speaking and publishing opportunities, discounted INSOL membership and other referral services.
As the IWIRC tag line very appropriately states – “CONNECTING WOMEN WORLDWIDE” is what IWRIC achieves on an unparalleled scale. Now, IWIRC has grown beyond that realm and also includes men as their members.
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the launch of IWIRC India Chapter in its new avatar, which is the exclusive network of IWIRC in India. India has taken a big leap with promulgation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC), which is a comprehensive legislation on insolvency and bankruptcy of companies, LLPs, individuals and partnership firms. The India Network joins IWIRC’s network to further its mission.
IWIRC was founded in December 1993 by Selinda Melnik, Laureen Ryan and Martha Fetner, an attorney, investment banker and commercial banker, respectively. It is a not-for-profit professional association incorporated in May 1994 under the laws of the State of New York, USA. IWIRC held its first meeting in London, England in June 1994. It has now grown to approximately 50 networks with a global membership of more than 1,200 attorneys, bankers, corporate-turnaround professionals, financial advisors and other restructuring practitioners, members develop a powerful network of contacts, resources, mentors and friends.
