Kaviraj Singh, Secretary – General of the Indian National Bar Association in an endeavour to bestow respect and admiration for the challenging and yeoman services rendered by GCs to corporate India, successfully organized INBA 2019 General Counsel’s Summit which was both an awards ceremony as well as a conference. It strived to acknowledge the immense professional contributions of general counsels across verticals and functions, and who through their sheer hard work and perseverance have overcome various obstacles to efficiently lead their team to greater success in this complex legal world. The prestigious awards were given to recognize and reward the exceptional work and the results gained by the General Counsels of the corporate domain, in the face of an ever-increasing competitive market.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Tackling the Future…Today”. The welcome address was given by Kaviraj Singh. An inaugural speech was given by Prof. Dr. Dilip Ukey – Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai.
The opening ceremony was started with keynote speech by Sanjay Sahay – Additional Director General of Police, Police Computer Wing, Govt. of Karnataka (topic: Emerging Technologies – Future Crimes), Brijesh Singh – Secretary & Director General, Information & Public Relations and Special Inspector General of Police, Cyber Government of Maharashtra and Vishram Deshpande – Deputy Commissioner, Maharashtra Institute of Labour Studies.
Few broad topics, which were nonexhaustive in nature, were set out at the outset of the conference are: GDPR – what to expect in 2020 and beyond, Media & Mass Communication, M&A in India – Best practices in an era of compliance, Fintech, Cloud Computing, Smart Contracts and Disruptive Technologies, Board & Corporate Governance, Arbitration, White Collar Crimes, Frauds, and Internal Investigations, Emerging Technologies & Its Effect on the IP Industry, etc.
A total no. of 33 awards was given to serve as a token of appreciation and gratitude to General Counsels continued dedication. Top Awardees were Rajendra Mishra, EVP and GC of Taj Group as GC of the Year – Men (Joint), Zameer Nathani, Senior Vice President and GC of UFO as GC of the Year – Men (Joint), Preeti Balwani, GC India of Heinz Kraft as GC of the Year – Women, Debolina Pratap, GC of Wockhardt as Best Legal Team, Bijoya Roy, VP & Group General Counsel of Flipkart as GC – Ecommerce, Nanda Harish, Head – Legal and CS of Paymate as GC – Fintech, Ms. Dipti Kotak Chief Legal Officer – Media Business of Reliance Industries Limited as GC – Digital Media and many more.
