“Human Intellect, Innovation & Knowledge Management – Our Key Pillars”
Amongst a sea of law firms in the country’s legal machinery, there have been certain benchmarks that have been set for the rest to aspire for. Right from bringing in the best of the talent pool to expansion in a very strategic manner, Hammurabi & Solomon Partners has seen a very promising growth trajectory over the last few years. Lex Witness gets into a candid coffee table conversation to share the veteran’s views. Here are excerpts from our interaction with Dr. Manoj Kumar, Founder & Managing Partner, Hammurabi & Solomon Partners.
Our aspiration has always been to grow in totality which means to achieve growth not only externally by increasingour clientbase but also to build a strong team of home-grown and lateral hires with extensive expertise. Over the period of time we have been able to personally take care ofour human resource assets by focusing on Performance Management and Training &Development to hone their skillsets.
We have also been able to induct partners across various offices having niche expertise to offer efficient, cost effective and timely solutions to our clients. We have restructured our firm so as to provide high growth opportunities to the partners. We have had a strong focus towards the responsibility of maintaininghealthy relationship and having a coordinal development withour client base. Our new offices in Delhi & Gurugram in addition of Bangalore, Mumbai, Patna & Ranchi not only bring best state of art infrastructure but also imbibe the most hi-tech facilities. All these certainly have been the greatest challenges. We have been able to transform ourselves into a multi-partner firm with pan India presence with emphasis on standardization & Knowledge Managementwhich has helped us in enhancing our productivity.
Hammurabi & Solomon has both pan India presence and extensive knowledge, the combination of which creates synergies that benefit our clients. Our in-depth expertise and understanding of legal, policy and business concepts to support and achieve our clients’ objectives and their needs with a timely and cost-effective manner has proven to be an edge over our competitors.
We have been known for our ability to optimize our capabilities by opting for innovative methodologies to serve bespoke solutions to our clients. We are perhaps one of the few firms in the country which provide strategic legal solutions instead of traditional legal solutions. Be it changing dynamics of the country or development of new policies like Companies Amendment Bill 2017, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code Amendments, EU-GDPR, Mining Laws, International Arbitrations Rules, etc., we have always ensured to be the first movers.
We have established a multidisciplinary advisory board and panel of experts to ensure that we deliver industry centric pragmatic services to our clients. To ensure highest quality with holistic and innovative approach, we have adopted a unique methodology involving different tier of lawyers working on an assignment. Our team members comprised with skilled and experienced professionals that allows us to take on broad type of business and legal matters and to become the trusted advisors to the clients. Our involvement on various platforms for policy formulation, recommendation and prediction goes a long way in bringing thoughtful value to the clients. It provides a more foundational understanding of the dynamics of the environment they are operating in and also helps them actually bring about policies and regulations which would benefit them tremendously over time.
We also understand that it is imperative to keep adapting to the environment and to serve the client needs. We believe that evaluating clients’ feedback continuously andadapting our services to their requirements is highly imperative. Recent major changes and adaptations are also based on technology front wherein we ensure to maintain on-going relationship with our clients and also encourage effective communication, convenience and accountabilities to our clients.
Which practices in your firm do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind them?
Considering the way, the economy is moving globally and the huge opportunities that India presents, coupled with the stand of the Government to make India a serious destination for investment, we have seen a large number of initiatives recently in the economic and judicial framework in the country.
This has resulted in the explosion of practice areas which are built on the convergence of economics and business. For instance, litigation in complex matters in areas such as Competition/ Anti-Trust, Environment and Company matters, Insolvency laws along with Policy audits and stability Predictions, Merger & Acquisitions and Corporate Compliance. We would also be expecting a big growth in the field of International Arbitration. After the introduction of the new Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Act 2015, the arbitration scenario of India has drastically changed. The recent amendments and developments in this sphere has increased the confidence of parties to have more and more international arbitrations seated in India.
Simultaneously, on the business front, with some of the initiatives such as Digital India, Start-up India, Smart Cities, Artificial Intelligence, Future sciences etc. would cut across spectrums such as cyber space, environment, mines & minerals, infrastructure, Projects, defence, and media, there are very exciting times ahead in the domain and again an understanding of the business side of affairs and policy formulation is going to be critical.
