J. Sagar Associates advised eBay Singapore as local counsel in its strategic investment of in Jasper Infotech Private Limited (Jasper).

eBay Singapore led this round of financing in Jasper and the investment is part of a second round of funding in Jasper, with the total investment received by Jasper from all investors in this round being approximately US$ 134 million.

eBay Singapore’s new investments in Jasper raise its holding in the Indian e-commerce marketplace, building on an initial investment made in mid-2013. The unique sensitivities in the investment arose due to the fact that eBay and Jasper are competitors operating in the same business space. Given the increased investment being made, the transaction was structured in a manner which fulfilled the commercial requirements of eBay while at the same time balancing the interests of Jasper. This investment is also considered one of the most significant deals in the e-commerce space in India.
