Dr. Lalit Bhasin was conferred with a unique Honour by no one else than Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Consumer Affairs and Food Public Distribution, Minister of Textiles at a 1st ever Global Services Conclave, “India Serves: Exploring Potential Growth Sector Beyond IT/ITes” at the Taj Palace, Diplomat Enclave, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi.
Dr. Bhasin was the only recipient of this Award in recognition of his services as Founder – Chairman of Services Export Promotion Council for promoting export of services from India. This includes the hospitality sector, the health care sector, education sector, entertainment sector, engineering services, architectural services, accountancy services, maritime services and legal services etc.
While presenting the award to Dr. Bhasin, the Minister spoke about expanding the scope of Legal Services worldwide. The Global Services Conclave 2021 saw experts from the government, services industry, exporting community, academia, and policymakers outlining a roadmap for India to achieve the target of $1trillion by 2030.
Dr. Lalit Bhasin has been practising law since 1962 and since than had several feathers in his hat. Along with being a president of the Society of Indian Law Firms and the Bar Association of India. He is also president of the Indian Law Foundation. He is an honorary life member of the International Bar Association, chairman of CIArb India, and a member of the ICC Arbitration India Core Group. He is a past president of the Inter Pacific Bar Association and a former chairman of the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal of India. He is chairman of PHD Chamber of Commerce Committee on Americas. He is also chairman of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) Task Force on Legal Services. He is regional president of the Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), besides being chair of staff committee and council member of the Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC).
Dr. Bhasin was awarded a Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa by Jaipur University in 2013, a Plaque of Honour for outstanding contribution to the rule of law in 2002 by the Prime Minister of India, and the National Law Day Award in 2007 by the President of India.
SEPC is an Export Promotion Council set by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It is an apex trade body which facilitates service exporters of India. As an advisory body it actively contributes to the formulation of policies of Government of India and acts as an interface between the Services Industry and the Government.
