Heralded as India’s First Virtual Legal Marathon on ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance), the initiative garnered tremendous global attention. It endorsed the significance of environmental, social and governance along with upholding human resource ethics. The initiative was also registered as a UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) Event for World Environment Day Celebrations 2021. The firm is hailed as India’s first and only law firm to have a dedicated ESG practice desk that caters to domestic and international clientele across diverse industrial realms.
The Inaugural Ceremony was flagged off on 3rd June 2021 and witnessed encouraging participation under the patronage of notable industry experts who spoke on various topics like Environment Day & Ecosystem Restoration, Growing Importance of ESG for Indian Companies, Business & Human Rights, Case Studies on How Companies can use ESG Principles for Value Creation in their Organisation and ESG Disputes & ADR: Future Roadmap, etc.
Alok Dhir, Founder & Managing Partner – Dhir & Dhir Associates, delivered the Keynote Address along with Cherie Blair CBE QC, Co-founder & Chair, Omnia Strategy LLP. The eminent mix of speakers included Girish Joshi, Chief Trading Operations and Listing Sales, Bombay Stock Exchange; Adam Anthony Smith, Head – Business & Human Rights Practice, Omnia Strategy LLP; Kalindee Mehta, Chief of Staff to the APJ President, Former GC, SAP; Lakshika Joshi, Lead IP Counsel, Global & AVP Legal, Capgemini Engineering; Neeti Sachdeva, Secretary General and Registrar, Mumbai Centre for International Arbitration; and the session was moderated by Sonal Verma, Partner & Global Leader (Markets & Strategy), Dhir & Dhir Associates.

The pandemic has reinforced humanitarian values and ‘back to nature’ movement to restore the imbalance created by the economic, digital, and industrial revolution. As a curtain raiser to the World Environment Day commemorated globally on 5th June 2021, the firm organised this 24 hour Research Lab marathon wherein young professionals and environment enthusiasts dedicated 24 hours solely to the purpose of conducting research, studying various environmental and other related laws that can transform the business and commercial landscape of the world.
It is crucial to understand the various regulatory compliances that foster environmental and social growth and the intricate methodologies to implement it, which in turn goes a long way in promoting commercial success and enhancing the goodwill of your organization.
With over 1000 registrations, the firm shortlisted nearly 100 contender aspirants who possessed the caliber and mettle to understand the nuances of environment law regulations and human resource management that sustain gender equality across various industries’ international coherence the related laws. The participants had grit, commitment, and dedication, adhering to the rules that converted them into disciplinarians whose aim was to unravel the various laws on creating awareness and generating mass interest in the ESG domain. Glimpses of the rules include formal yet pleasant presentation of self through appropriate dressing, maintaining the zeal throughout, and assessing the level of camaraderie among co-contestants and peers. It was an unbeatable mix of thrill, excitement, challenge, perseverance, grit, determination, and most importantly, upholding the cause through this research.
The research by the team of participants was recorded and documented in preestablished templates, meticulously examined by the Jury to decide the winners of India’s First Virtual Legal Marathon – 24 Hour Research Lab. Thirty winning candidates have also been offered internships with Dhir & Dhir Associates. They will undergo training to hone their skills and implement their knowledge expertise.
With all the possible thrills of a 24-hour live research lab equally challenging, the event was highly acclaimed and well-received by all the professionals in this domain. The initiative gained widespread popularity, especially among youth, whose energies and diligence are now channelized towards the development of self, society, and nation. Knowledge expertise is the backbone of the ESG practice. Change can only be implemented once we have mastered the insightful information that can be successfully interweaved within the organizational operations and business functions across hierarchies present in every industry and its related laws.
