ACC Continues to Grow Globally with New “Firsts” in Europe, Hong Kong

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 45,000 in-house counsel employed by over 10,000 organizations in 85 countries, has opened its first office in Brussels and will host its inaugural ACC Asia Pacific Annual Meeting in Hong Kong, two notable milestones for the association and corporate counsel worldwide.

We are happy to establish a permanent presence in Brussels, and absolutely delighted to welcome such a talented executive as Giuseppe to the ACC team. It is an important signal to our members that we are serving an international community of in-house counsel, whose needs and interests cross borders and languages.

VETA T. RICHARDSON
ACC President and CEO

The Brussels office will serve as a European headquarters for ACC and will be led by new Managing Director Giuseppe Marletta. The opening of the office and hiring of Marletta will allow the organization to offer more and more varied services to in-house lawyers on the continent and in nearby time zones.

Celebrating 25 years in 2019, Europe is one of ACC’s oldest chapters. This year will see the 2019 Annual Conference in Edinburgh, the 2019 Global General Counsel Summit in London, and dozens of roundtables and events on the topics affecting European corporate lawyers.

Meanwhile, the Asia Pacific Annual Meeting will be held April 11 in Hong Kong, with the theme “Connect, Engage, Deliver.” Dane Chamorro will serve as the opening keynote speaker, addressing “navigating the new geo-political and economic reality in the Asia Pacific region.” Chamorro is a Senior Partner in Control Risks Asia Pacific business and has more than 25 years’ experience in the region. A former US diplomat, Dane specializes in business intelligence and regularly advises strategic investors and private equity firms on political and partner risks, corporate governance and high-profile business disputes.

Other topics include: how to navigate a contractual dispute, using technology to transform your legal department, what lawyers need to know about cryptocurrency, the “how to” guide to becoming a GC, a workshop on internal investigations, and a session on practical approaches to cybersecurity.

The conference will close with a keynote on programming, robots, and ethics, as well as ensuring that artificial intelligence (AI) is legally compliant.

I am excited to join the ACC team. The 2,500 members of ACC Europe are our top priority, in and out of the European Union. I fully expect our new Brussels office will mean amplified services for our members and greater overall growth.

GIUSEPPE MARLETTA
Managing Director, ACC Europe
