The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the UPES shared his experience and challenges with Lex Witness.
Dr. Parag Diwan, the founder VC with a pleasant smile on his face stated that it was the massive demand of post-liberalization India, wherein Industries were getting deregulated and were expanding at great pace for huge talent pool. This inspired us to educate differently and have domain specific focus so as to cater to the needs of rising and aspiring India. Such a scenario called for huge talent pool with specialized skill set in the Industries like Oil & Gas, Power, and Infrastructure etc. the industries which play pivotal role in building the nation, hence the personification of UPES as “Builders of the Nation”
As per Dr.Diwan they started UPES with three colleges viz. Technical (Engineering), Business and Law with integrated programmes to synergize different streams of learning for creating a visionary professional with specialized industry specific skill set. He with a satiated demeanour stated that the Industry has welcomed their initiative and has showered UPES with awards and its students with highly paid salaries.
To name a few awards Innovation Leadership Award2010, B-School with Innovation Leadership Award 2010, Awarded by B-School Affairs at Suntech, Singapore under the category of Asia’s Best B-School Awards, Academic Brand of the Year for Sectoral Specific Business School 2009 Awarded by Dewang Mehta Business School Awards on 5thNovember 2009 at Mumbai in recognition of UPES.
Maintaining the tradition of being identified as innovators, under its College of Legal Studies, UPES offers unique and pioneering specialized law programs. These programs are embedded with management skills proffering dual degree in Engineering & Law. B Tech Computer Science + LLB with emphasis on Cyber Laws program is a unique amalgam of Computer Science knowledge & Laws pertaining to Cyber space. B Tech Energy Technology + LLB with emphasis on Intellectual Property Rights program imparts understanding of techno-legal issues in energy & its allied domains. Integrated BA LLB with emphasis on Energy Laws is the program that trains in legal frame work and contractual requirements. Integrated BBA LLB with emphasis on Corporate Laws program creates corporate lawyers who understand intricacies of business and are well versed with Corporate Laws & Regulatory Affairs.
