Dr. Lalit Bhasin elected as the President of Bar Association of India

The Bar Association of India conducted its 20th General Council Meeting on 29thSeptember 2018 in New Delhi. The association re-elected Dr. Lalit Bhasin as the President unanimously for a term of 2 years.

The voters were representatives of states from all-over India. The past Presidents have been Mr. M.C. Setalvad, Mr. C.K. Daphtary, Mr. Lal Narayan Sinha, Mr. K. Parasaran, Mr. Fali Nariman and Mr. Anil Divan. Dr. Lalit Bhasin is also the President of Society of Indian Law Firms, Chairman of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and President Indian Law Foundation. He has put in 56 years of law practice. Mr. Prashant Kumar was re-elected as President–elect. He is the past President of LAWASIA.

The Bar Association of India has been actively involved in providing free legal aid, improvement of legal education, maintenance of high professional conduct and discipline, to hold conferences and seminars on current topics, etc.

ABOUT BAR ASSOCIATION OF INDIA

The Bar Association of India is a voluntary organisation of lawyers which was established in April 1960 shortly before the enactment of the Indian Advocates Act, 1961, which fused the legal profession in India and introduced a common roll of Advocates in each State.The Association has a character of the Federation of Bar Associations, having various High Court Bar Associations, District Court Bar Associations, the Supreme Court Bar Association, and representative Bar Associations of various Tribunals, Commissions and other legal fora throughout the country as its corporate members. Besides, the Association has on its rolls distinguished members of the legal profession in India as individual members and life members.

It is an honour to be elected as the President of Bar Association of India again. I look forward to working with the other office bearers and put my best foot forward to contribute to the growth of the Association. The Association has always been at the forefront of introducing new ideas and instilling a culture of inquir y, debate and discussion on the issues vital to the Indian Legal Profession. Delivering Justice and maintaining and promoting the R ule of Law have been paramount to the Association and I plan to take this legacy forward.
