3rd Edition Asian General Counsel Summit 2012

Conference in Progress

Aworld of more stringent regulatory requirements looms, creating a complex set of challenges for business. General Counsel will have to guide their firms through this often opaque, inconsistent and sometimes contradictory environment. General Counsel will be at the forefront in ensuring firms can both compete and comply. For many in the legal profession, the role of legal counsel offers an opportunity to extend skills beyond the confines of commercial legal practice, to encompass strategic business consulting. While this shift offers new and exciting opportunities for legal practitioners, there can emerge key areas of deficiency in the type and grade of skill required to become an effective legal and business leader.

General Counsel Summit 2012 provided a valuable two days out of the office to reflect and compare the practice with the experience and innovation of industry leaders from some of India’s leading organizations. General Counsel Summit 2012 brought in-house legal practitioners together from India’s largest corporations across numerous industries including manufacturing, energy, financial, media and retail. Lex Witness was one of the media partners to the event.

There was a total attendance of 60 delegates. The event was spread across for 2 days and was kicked off by registrations along with networking breakfast. This was a knowledgeable conference and the delegates attending, got an opportunity to learn, meet, interact, network and share knowledge with the experts from the legal community

The purpose of the conference was to provide the industry a platform to share their experience in legal aspects and the importance of a General Counsel in today’s environment, and make them aware of the different frameworks. The event comprised of some knowledgeable presentations made by eminent speakers, followed by lively and passionate discussions throughout the day.

The conference formally began with a key note by Mr. J. K. Bodha, General Manager, Legal – ONGC Ltd. The speaker representation was from companies like ONGC Ltd., Tata Communications Ltd., Yahoo India, GE Capital India, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., Wockhardt Ltd., Mylan Laboratories Ltd. and many more.

Personally, it was a great fulfilling moment to see this conference take place, which provided a platform to the industry to express their views and gain knowledge on the importance and role of a General Counsel in an organization.

We would also like to thank our Partners, Speakers & Delegates, without which this was not possible.
